Read-a-thon
Spread the joy of the written word!
Individuals, schools, and civic groups are encouraged to participate in our Reach for the Stars! Read-a-thon campaign by reading as much as they can during a time period of their choosing, while also raising money to support the good work of Literature for All of Us.
This is a perfect community service learning opportunity for a student group, youth group, or civic club. We will work with your group to create a successful campaign and make sure your members are acknowledged for their efforts.
How it works…
Reach for the Stars! Read-a-thon is an ongoing fundraising campaign. Participating individuals and teams establish their own timeframe for their read-a-thon. As a reader, you will ask your family, friends, neighbors and colleagues to sponsor you with a donation for every book you read.
You can sign-up for Reach for the Stars! Read-a-thon through the Literature for All of Us launch page on Firstgiving, an internet group that connects supporters with good causes. Through Firstgiving, you can quickly create your own Personal Fundraising Page using information we provide and filling in a few blanks. You can also add your own photo or personal request. And, you can register as an individual or as a team.
Create your own Personal Fundraising Page:

Click “Get Started.” It’s quick and easy. And fun.
Once your Fundraising Page is activated by Firstgiving, you send it to your email contacts asking them to sponsor you. They then make their donations directly to Literature for All of Us through your Firstgiving Fundraising Page. You don’t have to worry about collecting your pledges and getting them to us. It’s all done for you! Plus, your sponsors will automatically receive an email thanking them for their pledge.
What is the commitment?
You agree to read during a timeframe of your choosing. You tell some of your closest friends and associates about your plan to read to raise funds for literacy and ask them to support you. You let them know how many books or pages you pledge to read and they make a donation through your own Fundraising Page. That’s it!
